Domestic Damocles is one of a series of sculptures that I have completed since moving to Atlanta in 1988. The diminished scale and attention to detail invite a closer and more intimate visual experience for the viewer, more of a whisper than a shout. Resembling a cage, the framework of a residential structure holds a replica story of the “Fat Man,” a nuclear bomb that was dropped on the city of Nagasaki in August of 1945. It suggests the possibility that the structure was built around the weapon that hangs ominously in its upper story. The composition alludes to the violence that is interwoven in all levels of human anxiety and aspiration.
