Jonathan Terranova

the BOMB, 2019

“This is very personal, because there’s things I know about it. Jonathan Terranova was a graduate student at SCAD that I taught. Very political young man, did beautiful work, very conceptual many times. And he had ordered from the Mint a sheet of one dollar bills, which he wanted to screen print images of bombs on, but he actually wanted to use his own blood. So I found a doctor friend of mine who would go one night to his house, and he drew the blood, and Jonathan mixed it with the clear screen print material, and screen printed the shapes of the bombs in blood, leaving a lot of the dollar bills showing—it’s all about money—and then using the blue as a kind of cool temperature, sky and negative space.”
