Catherine Cabaniss

Water-Based is a body of work I have experimented with in paintings, prints, photography and, most recently, digital photographs collaged on board and acrylic. This work was inspired in the 1990’s by the gradual realization that we were ruining the water throughout the world. One of my ongoing interests has been the “push-pull” in our society of preserving our environment and pushing technology. Becoming engulfed in technology has made me want to learn more about art in ancient periods- Irish Celtic art of inscriptions on stone and metal and Celtic knotwork. This led to making layered pieces of artwork combining ancient ideas and modern technology-digital photos collaged on wood, fabric, and paper. During this historical period the poet held an honored place in society. Most things worth recording were written in verse as they were easy to remember and pleasant for listening.
