Joseph Wheeler

Fear of the dark is often a product of imagination. After childhood, it graduates to fear of the unknown because maintaining that sense of imagination becomes paranoia or delusion. Dark, enclosed spaces are no longer somewhere for the unknown to hide, and to suspect it is an irrational misunderstanding of reality.

Joseph Wheeler is a sculptor, painter, and ceramicist living in Birmingham, Alabama. He uses objects, images, and materials to build vocabularies out of human relationships that span from deeply personal to universal, and express thoughts and experiences beyond the structural framework of language.
