Spring 2021
As a community partner with the Jefferson County Memorial Project, Space One Eleven presented “Just Injust,” an exhibition of works created by artists who are responding to our nation’s history of racial injustice.
Birmingham writer Kwoya Fagin Maples said of the exhibition, “It all belongs to you. This fight belongs to you too. This is the urgent message of Just Injust.” The works in this exhibition were created by artists who were responding to our country’s history of racial injustice and presenting a message that social justice belongs to all of us, and it is our collective responsibility to fight for it.
In addition to our gallery hours, Space One Eleven hosted an artist talk including Neal Ambrose-Smith, Joel Fuller, Celestia Morgan, Amber Quinn, and April Shipp moderated by New York-based multidisciplinary artist Aisha Tandiwe Bell. Space One Eleven also presented “A Conversation with Ronald McKeithen,” an interview featuring guest speaker McKeithen, who was wrongly imprisoned in Alabama for 35 years, conducted by JCMP Executive Director Joi Brown.
