(Part-Time, Contract Position)
Space One Eleven is seeking a teaching artist for our City Center Art Saturday program for students in grades 9–12. If you are a practicing artist with a college art degree (MFA preferred) and experience teaching studio art at the college level or in advanced high school or pre-college programs, we encourage you to apply. Please also feel free to share this opportunity with other qualified artists in your network.
About the Program
City Center Art is a rigorous, multi-media studio art program designed to build visual communication skills and foster creative thinking. Students strengthen foundational techniques, explore art history and theory, and develop their individual voices through thoughtfully guided projects.
With guidance from the teaching artist, students will:
– Improve observational drawing and technical skills
– Work primarily in drawing and painting, with the possibility of introducing additional media based on student readiness and studio resources
– Participate in structured, sequential lessons designed to build both technical ability and creative thinking
– Engage in critique and reflective writing
– Learn about careers in the visual arts and creative industries
Who We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate brings strong technical skills, facilitates a supportive and inclusive studio environment, and actively guides students through all stages of the creative process.
Classes are held in person at our downtown Birmingham studios on Saturdays during the fall and spring semesters. This is a contract position and the pay rate is competitive.
