About Space One Eleven
Founded in 1986, Space One Eleven (SOE) provides professional opportunities for artists, fosters public understanding of contemporary art, and offers arts education for area youth. SOE champions artists and projects that speak to issues of equity, justice, and identity, presenting contemporary exhibitions that explore social justice and human rights. Serving as a center for contemporary art and arts education in downtown Birmingham, SOE presents exhibitions and programs that spark dialogue, promote social understanding, and foster community engagement through the visual arts. Position Overview
Space One Eleven seeks an Arts Education Coordinator responsible for the daily logistics and administration of its arts education program. This role includes City Center Art afterschool art classes, summer art camps, and in-school artist residencies, as well as adult art workshops. Individuals with a background in Art History or Art Education who demonstrate an understanding of contemporary art practices are strongly encouraged to apply.
This is a full-time position. Some evening and weekend work is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and schedule afterschool art classes, summer art camps, and adult art workshops
- Coordinate with public schools to deliver art classes in classrooms
- Recruit and coordinate teaching artists
- Review teaching artists’ lesson plans to ensure they align with Space One Eleven’s program goals
- Build and maintain relationships with parents and guardians
- Supervise volunteers during summer art camps
- Market the program
- Conduct program assessments and evaluations
- Collect program data for internal review and external reporting to funders
- Contribute to grant writing
- Process student registrations and teaching artist payments
- Update the website and database for the education program
- Maintain art studios, equipment, and supplies
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Art History or Art Education
- Minimum of one year of full-time experience in a professional setting
- Strong knowledge of art history, criticism, and art foundations
- Familiarity with standards-based art education practices is a plus
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Initiative and follow-through to ensure program success
- Access to a personal vehicle for transportation

Compensation and Benefits
- Pay rate: $17.00–$19.00 per hour, commensurate with experience
- Health Reimbursement Account, SIMPLE IRA with up to 3% employer match, and paid time off
