Anne Arrasmith

Anne Harper Arrasmith (1946 – 2017) Co-Founding Director of Space One Eleven, was an artist, educator, and arts advocate. Arrasmith was a mentor to many young people who aspired to be professionals in the arts.

A graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Anne began her career as a staff artist for the Birmingham News and later became a practicing artist and art instructor. In 1986 she co-founded Space One Eleven with sculptor Peter Prinz.

Arrasmith served on a number of national boards including the National Association of Artists’ Organizations (NAAO). She was a member of the Women’s Network of Birmingham, ArtTable, the Visual Arts Board of the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and Leadership Birmingham Class of 1986. She served on the Steering Committee of the Regional Cultural Plan for the Birmingham Greater Metropolitan Area, and the Advisory Board of the Metropolitan Gardens Tenants Association. She received a Woman of Distinction award from the Alabama Cahaba Girl Scout Council and the Silver Bowl Award from the Birmingham Festival of Arts.

Arrasmith created large-scale installations centered on social commentary and worked with Peter Prinz on installations and one-of-a-kind art furniture and exhibited with the Alabama artists’ collective, PAAMA. Throughout her career, Arrasmith worked on The Robin and Carolyn Wade House, a living and evolving piece of art that served as a canvas for the ever-changing flow of ideas of its creators while remaining a haven for its owners.
