Interchange, 2013
As part of the Interchange exhibit at Space One Eleven, Tarrasch created an installation made of simple materials–reclaimed wood, yarn, iron, and cardboard tubes as a reflection of his experiences while working at Project Row Houses in Houston. Tarrasch contemplates the simultaneous states of growth and decay in urban environments, those such as PRH and SOE who create the conditions for change to occur, and the positive impact the changes have on residents and their environments. Falling/Rising is an “interchange” experience for Tarrasch—how he views his surroundings and feels about being part of a change. He intends for the viewer to reflect on some of these same experiences.
Jürgen Tarrasch received his MFA in painting and wall painting in 1993 from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Poland. He was named a Space One Eleven Creating a Living Legacy Artist, as part of a program developed by The Joan Mitchell Foundation. He has participated in a number of individual and group exhibitions, and his work can be found in both public and private collections.
