Born in Syracuse, New York in 1912 Ellen was married from 1941 — 1999 to the late

Manhattan Project nuclear physicisit, Henry J. Weiland, Ill. Educated in Europe, South America and the United States, she graduated from Syracuse University College of Fine

Arts in painting, pursuing professional studies further at MacKenzie College, Sao Paulo, Brazil; the Art Academy of the Cincinnati Museum of Art and the Education Council of the Birmingham Museum of Art. Extensive knowledge has been gained from major museums in England, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Brazil,

Columbia, Malaysia, Thailand and Pakistan as well as the United States.

Ellen’s exhibition record consists primarily of regional and local shows in New York

State and the Southeast. Ellen’s work is represented in private, public and museum collections in South America, Europe and the United States. She has served on the boards of the Alabama Water Color Society, Birmingham Art Association and the Art Education Council of the Birmingham Museum of Art.

Ellen has one son, Henry J. Weiland, IV, of Ashville, North Carolina and one daughter, Wendy, Mrs. Harry A. Burns of Charlotsville, Virginia, where Ellen resided till her death.
