the BOMB, 2019

BOOM incorporates discarded advertising signs and a large-scaled reproduction of Hiroshima, Japan the day after it was decimated by an atomic bomb nicknamed “Little Boy” in 1945. It always struck me as ironic, if not sinister, that a weapon of such mass destruction would be addressed in terms that evoke notions of innocence and endearment. The overall tone of the piece may convey a child’s game in which the stakes seem low, but the subsequent fallout remains ominous and foreboding.
